Asian stocks were set to decline as investors pared optimism due to legal uncertainties around President Donald Trump’s trade war and a slowing US economy.

US equity-index futures slipped 0.2% after the S&P 500 Index trimmed most of an advance that earlier approached 1%. Contracts for Australia, Japan and Hong Kong pointed to a loss. The dollar was steady in early trading Friday after a gauge of the currency’s strength weakened 0.4%.

A federal appeals court temporarily paused a sweeping ruling against President Donald Trump’s global tariffs while it takes more time to consider the administration’s request for a longer-lasting hold.
